It was convenient to make reservations and know prices before booking, and it was an excellent value, price was great for a very good food, wonderful view, good service, and as a bonus, the observation levels that come free with the meal reservations.
We got there right at 11am, it was a bit tricky to find the Baiyoke Tower Hotel main entrance and multiple steps to go to main level kiosks, 18th floor lobby, check in and pay at buffet, but service was very polite and nice. From there we went up another set of elevators to (I think) another elevator right into the restaurant where they were expecting us. Be sure to take a screen shot or show the email of your reservation confirmation, it’s a bit confusing, esp since it looks as if there are FIVE different buffet restaurants in this huge hotel building!
Self serve soft drinks, Thai teas, and a coffee machine and ice is available free with your buffet meal. We wish there was plain soda or filtered water on tap to water down some of the sweet teas and sodas. You can order bottled water and specialty drinks and alcohol, but there is a charge.
It’s really quite nice that all the tables are window side for views, and the food options are in the middle area in a circle! The pizza and fries were good/adequate (they use the preformed crusts), the fried chicken wings excellent, the dim sum pretty good— some I think were steamed from frozen, but at least the quality quite good (unlike Novotel ☹️). Where this place really shines is the Thai food dishes— you can order small plates of portions to share so you can really try the variety of specialties of Thailand. You give them your table number, and they make them up piping hot and fresh and deliver to your table— we liked this!! The mini shrimp pad Thai was beautifully presented, with a tiny omelette over it, and you can customize and mix in extra chili, sugar, bean sprouts and squeeze a little lime wedge from the side of the dish! The small mussel omelette was hot and crisp, on a tiny bed of cooked bean sprouts, delicious! The papaya salad was refreshing and spicy— a good palate cleanser between bites of other food. Two steamed radish cakes came with either chili crisp topping (not too spicy), or diced cooked shrimp—both delicious.
The salmon sashimi and rolled futomaki were very good. There were various Thai Wagyu (a bit tough) soup and noodle dishes. The grilled seafood was also terrific— the best river shrimp I have had in Thailand in 2 years here, it is usually underwhelming or mushy, but these were amazing! The squid was also TENDER and tasty. Octopus was like rubber, however.
Another great dish was the roasted duck— trendy slices deboned fresh right in front of you, and the chicken rice was tender and tasty. I didn’t personally like the steamed seafood dish, but only because it was covered in fresh cilantro / coriander! Can that please be left on the side?? The seafood in it, with the small fresh crab was very good.
I tried both the corn soup and the delicate egg drop soup— both were excellent. The soft roll with sesame seeds was adequate—it’s just white bread, and was good with butter. There a salad bar and fruit bar that looked very fresh and delicious.
We love how the desserts are tiny portions so you can try many things. My favorites were the sublime chocolate cake and the eclair. The red velvet cake was a bit dry. My husband enjoyed them all: mocha cake, passion fruit, strawberry. I had a fresh crispy Japanese styled crepe made up fresh with strawberry— it was excellent. I should have had it with a little vanilla soft serve, but didn’t know thy was an option! There should be more clear pictures to show this and the savory options too. The star again was the Thai mango sticky rice— absolutely stunning and perfect, in a small portion to just top off a great meal!!
There were also more Asian desserts, with the squiggly sweet things and durian too— but we were too full!
Service was kind and excellent and dishes disappeared from our table like magic. There were some staff dressed like clowns making pretty balloon designs for the kids too.
The views were breathtaking. The bathrooms very clean. The observation floors were had to walk up stairs to get to, but the rotating floor quite amazing! It was a bit smoggy the day we went, but not too hot, so we spent quite a bit of time pointing out alll of Bangkok spread out before us! It would be stunning on a clear day, or at night. The other interior observation deck had lots of cute tuk tuks and sets to pose for photographs with, and some historical information written out. It’s obviously for tourists and visitors to the city. I think they missed out on having a gift shop there for souvenirs to purchase! There are some gatcha (prize) machines to buy cute things like Nintendo or Sanrio or Ghibli characters.
All in all, for a birthday celebration, it was a wonderful experience and the Thai food was very good with a great view. The price and convenience of our other Hungry Hub was worth it, we paid about $41usd or almost 1400 baht for the two of us.
We took the BTS to Chitlom station and took the R-Walk through Gaysorn, way down past the Big C, all the way through Platinum Mall, and the onto the streets for a few blocks to Baiyoke Tower. On a hot day, I’d recommend getting transportation! But there are tons of fun clothing market stalls in this Pratunam area, lots of shopping and deals, so take some time to browse at Platinum and the surrounding areas afterwards or beforehand.
Highly recommended!!
